How I helped Illinois K-12 teachers move from trying one design activity to running full human-centered design projects with their students, and helped schools build teams to keep it going.
Context
Individual educators take online courses, join the community and attend the annual summit.
School introductions bring up to three custom workshops to a school.
School transformations are 2 to 3 year partnerships where a Core team of teachers is trained and coached to lead HCD at their school.
The Human-Centered Schools Network (HCSN) is the Siebel Center for Design’s community of K-12 teachers, school leaders and administrators who use human-centered design (HCD) to rethink teaching and learning. Schools join at one of three levels:

Built the network from the ground up
Developed marketing and outreach materials to grow the Human-Centered Schools Network
Designed and led the first Human-Centered Schools Network Summit
Secured multiple partnership contracts with educational institutions across Illinois
Created journey maps outlining partner deliverables and end-of-year learning objectives
Designed and facilitated a 5 to 6 session professional development curriculum for K-12 teachers
Designed and facilitated HCD workshops for integrating human-centered design into computer science and art
Developed new tools and resources to promote HCD Mindsets
Created an eLearning curriculum that was implemented in multiple LMS’s
Redesigned the field trip curriculum for teachers bringing classes to the Siebel Center for Design
Developed an assessment protocol to measure teachers’ HCD learning after annual training
Published research at the International Conference of the Learning Sciences (ICLS)
Designed a 40+ page prototype of an HCD playbook for teachers
Co-designed Human-Centered Design Video Game class in Chicago Public School
